The young runners from TSV Jahn Freising ignited the turbo at the Bavarian relay championships and won two titles in the U23s.

Zirndorf/Freising

– The track and field athletes of TSV Jahn Freising made a double effort last Saturday at the Bavarian Long Relay Championships in Zirndorf.

After last year's great performance with the U20 title, the 3x800 meter relay started this year in the U23 class - and here too Lea Kunstmann, Lotta Giersdorff and Frida Giersdorff sprinted to first place.

But that's not all: together with Ina Pfeiffer, the girls grabbed a championship title over the 4x400 meters.

In addition to TSV Jahn, the typical large clubs such as LG Stadtwerke Munich, Telis Finanz Regensburg and LAC Quelle Fürth were at the start.

But the Freisingers didn't have to hide from anyone.

Lea Kunstmann was not intimidated by the strong competition from the start over the 3x800 meters and after 200 meters courageously took third place in the eight-team field of women, U23s and U20s.

Thanks to an incredibly disciplined racing tactic, she fought for third place overall and first place in her age group before handing over to Lotta Giersdorff after 2:29 minutes.

Quali norm for the German championships cracked

And she did a great job too: Lotta – by far the youngest in the field – ran a top time of 2:27 minutes.

The direct competitors of Stadtwerke München were already a good 20 seconds behind after two thirds of the race.

After the perfect handover, her sister Frida Giersdorff left no doubt about the U23 victory and even reduced the gap to the Telis Finanz women.

With a time of 2:25 minutes, she secured the Bavarian U23 title for TSV Jahn.

And best of all: The Freisinger dream team undercut the qualifying norm for the German championships on May 29th in Mainz with a time of 7:22.51 minutes.

So there is the next challenge for the Freising trio in three and a half weeks.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

The fact is: The Jahn girls had finally gotten a taste for it and shortly afterwards followed it up with Ina Pfeiffer in the 4x400 meter relay.

For this contest, too, trainer Jörg Kunstmann issued a sophisticated race tactic that Lea Kunstmann, who had nerves of steel, was able to implement immediately.

The handing over of the baton also worked without any loss of speed worth mentioning, so Ina Pfeiffer was able to reward herself for her self-sacrificing and hard training, especially in the last six weeks before the Bavarian.

As the final runner, Frida Giersdorff doesn't let anything burn

Therefore, the young U23 collective of TSV Jahn was able to assert itself in the unusual sprint discipline and meanwhile took second place - just behind the U23 competition from LG Main-Spessart.

But the Freising girls wanted more, Lotta Giersdorff showed an indescribable run: She managed to close the gap of about 50 meters to the athlete in the women's class who was in front of her.

She passed and caught up with the next sprinter before handing over to her sister Frida.

The U 23 of the LG Main-Spessart was already about six seconds behind at that point.

The second title - the real sensation of the day - was within reach.

And Frida Giersdorff left nothing to chance as the final runner: After a total time of 4:20.19 minutes, she ensured the acclaimed victory for the U23s.
