13: 3 and 16: 5: The Bavarian League baseball players of the Freising Grizzlies set two big exclamation marks at the start of the season in Ingolstadt.
Freising
– Robert “Rob” Ushy is the man who wants to get the Freising Grizzlies Bayernliga team back on track.
The coach had arrived in the cathedral city just in time for the new baseball season, which started with two away games for the Grizzlies men on the May holiday.
After a short period of acclimatization, the team went to the Ingolstadt Schanzern – and there the Grizzlies clearly won both games 13:3 and 16:5.
They are currently at the top of the Bavarian League North ahead of the Guggenberger Legionnaires Regensburg III.
Fabian Hagemeyer stood on the mound as a pitcher for the entire first game.
Even if there was still some reluctance in the team at the beginning, the Freisingers still acted dominantly and collected point after point on the offensive.
The bears only allowed three opposing runs.
In the end, the guests were clearly ahead and secured the 13:3 win after six innings with the Mercy Rule.
Big win after a slow start
In the second game, the Domstädter also started cautiously.
But when the Grizzlies got used to the opposing pitcher, the knot finally burst.
While Julius Gessele heated up the Ingolstadt team as the starting pitcher, his teammates were no slouch on the offensive.
In the last inning, relief pitcher Bob Degener finally brought the match home with ease.
Although the Mercy Rule was not used in this game, the lead of 16:5 was considerable in the end.
The conclusion of team spokesman Julius Gessele after the season opener was correspondingly positive: "It was a good start with a solid performance."

The Freising Grizzlies laid the foundation for a successful round in winter in indoor training - even if the corona restrictions thwarted them at the beginning.
However, when these were relaxed, improving the shot and pitching was on the training plan, among other things.
She was supported by Johannes Krumm, a former Bundesliga pitcher who is now back at the feet of the Royal Bavarians.
Maximilian Kreilinger and Fabian Stapel are back
There were some personnel changes in the team for the new season.
"There were no significant departures," explains Gessele.
However, the Grizzlies men are happy about some newcomers or returnees.
Of the young bears, Felix Ströll, Julian Zistl, Niklas Klan, Raphael Gerzer and Sam Hermann will get a taste of the Bavarian League for the first time.
And particularly gratifying: alongside veteran Maximilian Kreilinger, Fabian Stapel will return to the field after a four-year baseball break.
"He has rekindled his fire and is hot for the season," says Gessele.
Now the Grizzlies are looking forward to their new trainer and a harmonious togetherness.
"The big goal is promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga - and that's definitely achievable for us," says the team spokesman.
The Grizzlies will compete at home for the first time on May 26th.
They receive the Guggenberger Legionnaires Regensburg III.
Before that there are two away games in Regensburg and one in Lauf.
