Ice Hockey World Cup - The squad of the German national ice hockey team for the World Cup in Finland is taking shape.

National coach Söderholm relies on several NHL stars:

The German national ice hockey team is currently preparing for the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championships.

Before the team of national coach Toni Söderholm flies to the tournament in Finland, the fourth and final preparation phase takes place in Schwenningen.

Germany ahead of the 2022 Ice Hockey World Cup: NHL stars strengthen the DEB team

On Thursday (5 May) the DEB will announce which ten players will join the World Cup squad.

Among them are the experienced internationals Moritz Müller (Kölner Haie), Korbinian Holzer and Matthias Plachta (both Adler Mannheim) and Dominik Bittner (Grizzlys Wolfsburg).

There are also reinforcements from the NHL!

Goalkeeper Philipp Grubauer (Seattle Kraken), defender Moritz Seider (Detroit Red Wings) and striker Tim Stützle (Ottawa Senators) will travel to Schwenningen.

There is also a player from the American Hockey League (AHL) in Marc Michaelis (Toronto Marlies).

The "newcomers" are completed by Tim Wohlgemuth (Adler Mannheim) and Dustin Strahlmeier (Grizzlys Wolfsburg).

Germany wants to play for a medal at the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championships

“We are happy that we are getting closer and closer to the start of the World Cup.

We're getting a good mix of players now, and they're also helping us in terms of play.

At the same time, I would like to thank the players from the first three phases for their passion and their work

,” says national coach Söderholm.

After fourth place at the 2021 Ice Hockey World Championships, the DEB team now wants to cause a sensation again and play for a medal at the World Championships in Finland.

Most recently, the German ice hockey cracks showed a disappointing performance at the 2022 Olympics in Beijing.

In Group A, Germany meets Canada (May 13), Slovakia (May 14), France (May 16), Denmark (May 19), Italy (May 20), Kazakhstan (May 22) and Switzerland (May 24).

Next Sunday (May 8th) the national team will play their last preparatory game against Austria.

The game will kick off at 5 p.m. in Schwenningen.

On Tuesday (May 10) the DEB team will travel to Helsinki.
