Continues to wander.
After fleeing Iran following his country's refusal to allow him to compete against Israelis, and having won the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics for Mongolia, judoka Said Moulay is moving to another destination and competing in the upcoming campaign under the Azerbaijan flag.
The 30-year-old Moulay has previously won the gold medal at the 2018 World Championships and the 2017 Bard for Iran in the 81kg weight category, and now following the move, he is expected to compete next year, for the first time at the European Championships in France.
Under the new sports rules adopted by the IJF (World Judo Association), when an athlete changes country of origin, his ranking points will not be reset, as in the past.
According to this rule, Moulay will remain, as of today, in seventh place in the world.
According to Moulay, one of his big dreams was to perform under the Azerbaijani flag: "Therefore, after the end of my contract with the Mongolian Judo Association, I took the first initiative and applied to the Azeri Judo Association. I am very happy to hear from now on that I will participate in Azerbaijan competitions. "The World and European Championships and the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics are waiting for us. We have little time, but I will do my best to achieve good results and raise our flag high."
