The SpVgg Schwabbruck/Schwabsoien is doing well in district class 4.

Nevertheless, the club made the decision not to continue with coach Hubert Strobel.

Schwabbruck/Schwabsoien – Hubert Strobel is really enthusiastic when he looks at the rest of his team's program.

"These are four really great games," says the SpVgg Schwabbruck/Schwabsoien coach.

On Sunday we go to FSV Eching - the SpVgg can help the neighbors Hohenfurch, Kinsau and Hohenpeissenberg in the relegation battle of district class 4.

SpVgg Schwabbruck can end the season in third place

After that there will be duels with the leaders, SV Unterdiessen, and the second, FC Wildsteig/Rottenbuch.

The "grande finale" is the away game against TSV Peiting II - Strobel was active on the board there for many years.

The whole thing has a small flaw for the coach, who has been in office since 2019: The four remaining games are Strobel's farewell tour at SpVgg.

The department management with Andreas Köhler (TSV Schwabbruck) and Fabian Sepp (SV Schwabsoien) has decided to rely on a different coach from the coming season.

Strobel was informed of the decision during a meeting in the clubhouse in January.

"That came as a surprise to me.

I would have continued – and I would have liked to,” says the 56-year-old, who lives in Schwabsoien.

Sure, there were the last four games before the winter break, from which SpVgg (after a 1-0 win over title aspirants Wildsteig/Rottenbuch) only got one point.

"I was puzzled myself." But overall the season went well.

The SpVgg overwintered in sixth place - although in the very narrow district class 4 that meant that the lead over the relegation zone was only five points.

In a face-to-face conversation, Strobel says that the resignation is still on his mind – the process is “a little suspicious” to him.

At the same time, the B license holder emphasizes: Separating from a coach and getting another "is legitimate for a club".

At first he was of the opinion that the separation was effective immediately.

It was finally agreed that he would complete the second half of the season as a coach.

According to the coach, it was already a question of how motivated the players are.

But the team showed character: "The boys went all out," says Strobel happily.

He doesn't let anything get in the way of the team anyway: "Mostly there are over 20 people" in training.

The team "is unlikely to be intact".

The commitment and diligence are reflected in the results: SpVgg won five out of six games in 2022 - it looks like third place could jump out in the end.

In 2018, the SpVgg rose to second place in the A-Class 8 in the district class.

In the relegation, the team defeated SC Böbing (0:0, 2:1).

Department management wants to set new impulses

According to the department management, there is a reason why the cooperation is not being continued: It is the fact that the majority of the mostly young players have had Strobel as a coach for five or six years.

Before his commitment to the first team, he looked after the A youth.

"Our reason was to bring in a new impetus and to give the players new development opportunities," says Fabian Sepp.

The head of department plays in the SpVgg team himself – in the last 2-0 win against Hohenpeissenberg he also scored.

"We are still absolutely satisfied" with Strobel as trainer.

It was important to the head of department: "We wanted a clean separation." Who knows whether there will be another collaboration.

"You always meet twice in life," says Sepp.

"I don't know yet what he'll do in terms of football in the coming season," says Strobel.

"Maybe I'll take a break." There were one or two loose contacts with other clubs, but the man from Schwabsoien doesn't just want to accept an office somewhere: "It has to fit." What's important to him at work is "the community".

Bastian Mayr is Hubert Strobel's successor

During the corona pandemic, Strobel has also used unfamiliar methods such as badminton and yoga to keep the players engaged.

In addition to him, assistant coach Helmut Meßmer and goalkeeper coach Tobias Robl will also retire.

The successor has been clarified: Bastian Mayr will train SpVgg in the future, since father Norbert has taken over the second team.

Bastian Mayr, who comes from Burggen and lives in Schongau, played at a higher level – as a youth at FC Augsburg, then at TSV Landsberg and FC Memmingen, among others.

For the 37-year-old, who last paused, it is the first station as a coach.

A few years ago, says Fabian Sepp, we already had contact with each other: "Now it worked." The head of department is excited: "It's an interesting project for both of them."
