FOOTBALL – BEZIRKSLIGA OST The coaches of VfB and SCBV before the derby about their expectations.

This Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Forstinninger Sportpark, the district derby of the East district football league will take place.

The host VfB meets SC Baldham-Vaterstetten.

It's a duel with completely different signs: while the table leaders from Forstinning are close to promotion to the national league, the SCBV is fighting for their last chance against relegation.

Before the game, the Ebersberger Zeitung asked the two coaches, Ivica Coric (VfB) and Gediminas Sugzda (SCBV), about their assessment of the situation on the three or four (VfB still has a catch-up game) game days before the end of the season.

"We need a lot of luck." Gediminas Sugzda, coach of SC Baldham-Vaterstetten, before the derby.

Mr. Sugzda, why is your club so far down?

Gediminas Sugzda: Because the team simply doesn't have enough points and doesn't present itself on the pitch as a unit that is necessary.

Because the team just doesn't act as one team.

Very simple story.

And there are actually very, very many reasons when you are at the bottom.

There is no rebellion in the event of small setbacks.

Such is the situation which is very difficult.

But we have to end the season with the players we have.

Of course, in our current situation, it is the last chance.

And why is your opponent today so high up?

Sugzda: My goodness.

Because the team is well-rehearsed and has a healthy core, plus a great coach.

That's why they're up there.

They kick well, are stable and have not sagged.

And just played the season at a high level.

Mr. Coric, why is your club so high up?

Ivica Coric: Because we have the most points (laughs).

We were very consistent over long stretches of the season, did a lot of things well offensively and especially defensively.

Through this run, this wave of success, we developed a winner mentality, which we were able to convert into decisive goals and points, especially in tight games.

When things are going well, things work out better than with a team in a bad phase.

Especially with a technically experienced team that has managed to implement my, often demanding, idea of football.

And why is your opponent today so far down?

Coric: Maybe because the things just mentioned just didn't work that way.

The squad and injuries in key positions also mean that you get caught up in a rut where things aren't going so well.

While I don't think it's a quality issue in Baldham.

But I can't really judge that from a distance.

I only deal with the SCBV twice a season.

How did the training week go?

Is everyone on board?

Sugzda: No, I don't think there is a team in the league where everyone is on board.

I'm missing very important players.

Of course, that's also a reason why we're standing the way we're standing.

We can't perform with a full team.

We have massive problems on defense, we can't replace them.

But we're starting with a decent squad and trying to compensate for the losses.

Coric: In principle, the training week was good.

Because on Tuesday we had actually prepared specifically for the Wednesday game in Waldperlach, it was annoying that we couldn't play.

On Thursday the focus was then on Saturday.

But you can already tell that the forces behind us are dwindling and the number of players is decreasing.

See Mustapha Sillah out for the rest of the season.

We dose the training accordingly to stay fit and lively.

But it's also an advantage for us that we manage to play our system as a unit, regardless of which player is there or not.

Mr Sugzda, how do you intend to keep VfB in check today?

Sugzda: Those are mostly individual stories.

We have to win the 1:1 duels, which we haven't been able to do so far.

It doesn't get any easier against Forstinning.

The team has confidence and a big goal and will have advantages.

We need very, very good luck.

I have confidence in the lads that we can defend well.

Mr. Coric, how do you want to crack the SCBV today?

Coric: By approaching the game very focused, creating as much pressure and scoring chances as possible, but always being careful and focused on defence.

I think it will be a very interesting game that will also be tactically shaped by the coaches.

In our area, it always depends a bit on the shape of the day.

Every point counts for us, but only wins bring us closer to our ultimate goal.

The fact that we haven't conceded a goal in six league games is also a small streak that is motivating for us to keep it.

Mr Sugzda, will VfB Forstinning get promoted?

Szugda: I wish that for VfB.

They've had a very good season so far.

It would be well deserved.

Mr. Coric, will the SCBV be relegated?

Coric: We'll see about that in the end, but it's not my place to judge.

Point wise they don't have it in their own hands and that's never a good position.

I have no emotional connection to the SCBV.

And while it's always nicer to have a local opponent, I hope we don't play Baldham next year anyway.

Because the direct ascent is still in our hands.

But we know that it is by no means over yet.

If you could transfer an opponent's player before the game, who would you sign and why?

Sugzda: I would like to get the captain, Hirt (Editor's note: Mathias Hirt is the 2nd captain, 1st captain is Korbinian Hollerieth).

That was our turn when I was manager at Baldham ten years ago.

It's a boy who's been playing there for so long, a real leader and stabilizer at the back.

We're missing someone like that, of course.

I don't think we would lose the game with him.

I've also been new to the league for three months, I don't know that many players, I know the coach best of all.

But it is not crucial.

What matters is how we present ourselves.

We're trying everything within our limits and hopefully we'll make it difficult for VfB Forstinning.

But we know what to expect.

Coric: Of course there are always a few players there, who have been there for a long time, who could also play a role with us.

But I don't want to name any names and right away I can't think of any that would help us immediately.

I would say that in the one-on-one duels we win more than half in all eleven positions.

The interview was conducted by Julian Betzl and Christian Scharl
