Champions League finalists Liverpool FC may have lost crucial points in the Premier League title race.
Coach Jürgen Klopp's team couldn't get more than 1-1 (0-0) against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening - Manchester City can thus pull away by three points three games before the end of the season.
Klopp had warned against Tottenham after the success in Villarreal and praised coach Antonio Conte's team as the best counterattack team in the Premier League.
Four titles are still possible for the Reds, but Pep Guardiola and his team now hold the trumps in the league.
Klopp had only changed his team in two positions, but there is little opportunity for recovery in the coming weeks.
The match against Aston Villa continues on Tuesday, and the FA Cup final against Chelsea is next Saturday.
Spurs striker Heung-Min Son (59th minute) tore the fans of the Reds from the championship dreams four days after the final in the premier class.
Luis Diaz (74th) still managed to equalize, for the time being Liverpool is the leader with the same number of points.
Man City, who failed spectacularly to Real Madrid in the semi-finals of the premier class, will welcome Newcastle United on Sunday (5.30 p.m., TV: Sky).
