Welcome to Penzberg: Jordan Wenninger (2nd from left) and Simon Büscher (2nd from right), who train at TC Weilheim, are now also supporting youth work at TC Penzberg.

The TC Penzberg has a large influx of youngsters and has therefore strengthened its coaching team.

The club starts the summer season with 14 teams.

Penzberg – The brothers Marco and Maxi Ontiveros, who are among the top Bavarian talents in their age groups, are playing a training match under competitive conditions on one of the back courts of the Penzberg tennis club.

Serve, cracking forehand, successful passing shot, dissatisfaction when a ball lands just outside of bounds.

Both demonstrate what is possible when talent meets will, commitment and diligence.

Balls are also flying in two other places.

Jordan Wenninger and Simon Büscher try to teach the basics, the basics of tennis, to children who are not yet familiar with the racquet.

For some girls and boys it's the first steps, for Wenninger and Büscher it's a premiere - at least at TC Penzberg.

TC Penzberg has a large influx of youngsters

The two have been running a tennis school in Weilheim for a few months, which is also active in Peißenberg and Polling, and have also been working in Penzberg since Saturday.

"We needed reinforcement because our trainers Roland Hecker and David Vesely had reached their capacity limit and could no longer cope with the demand," says TCP Chairman Thilo Klütsch.

Hecker drew the attention of Klütsch and his vice Kai-Uwe Krönfeld to Wenninger and Büscher, who had already done a good job as a coaching team at TC Weilheim in the past.

"Two or three good conversations later, we agreed," explains Klütsch.

The collaboration with Wenninger and Büscher is long-term.

Vesely and Hecker agree.

"We don't assume that the inflow will break off," says Klütsch.

Wenninger/Büscher support TC Penzberg with youth work

The small boom does not result from the children's desire to emulate Alexander Zverev or Angie Kerber, as was the case in the 1980s after the successes of Steffi Graf and Boris Becker, when tennis clubs all over Germany were sacked and tennis, the formerly elitist white sport, was suddenly of interest to the masses.

The explanation that Klütsch provides as to why the growth in membership is booming, especially in the youth sector, is unusual at first glance, but plausible at second glance: "The corona virus."

Tennis is an outdoor sport and could also be practiced because of the distance when other sports were not allowed due to the pandemic.

"The children want to move, that was possible with us." That's why he and Krönfeld have done everything to ensure that the young players stay with the bar and the adults, if necessary, find a trainer who can (even) better them might.

"Popular sport is particularly important to us," says Wenninger.

Of course, performance-oriented players also have Wenninger and Büscher in their sights.

They have in mind joint training for the best young players from Penzberg and Weilheim in the future.

"That can certainly raise the level," believes Büscher.

Men's team meets TC Weilheim in Südliga 1

The TCP is sending 14 teams into the season of media games, which begins on Friday, May 6th and is scheduled to last until July 16th.

The figurehead, the first team, competes in the Südliga 1 and meets TC Herrsching, TSV Neubiberg, TSV Gilching and TC Weilheim, for which Jordan Wenninger and Simon Büscher also serve.

The business relationship with the Penzbergers is definitely on hold for the direct duel.

Wenninger and Büscher, both 28 years old, offer their services in Penzberg twice a week.

Your team of trainers consists of a total of ten women and men who have at least the qualification as C trainers.

“Our goal is the masses.

We want to train a lot of young people.

The club has more breadth than performance,” says Wenninger.

However, players of the quality of Marco and Maxi Ontiveros or Samuel Gampenrieder, who recently celebrated several national successes in the U12 age group, are also important for reputation.
