In Sunday's game, SV Werder Bremen took the opportunity at FC Erzgebirge Aue, who had already been relegated, to get past their promotion rivals HSV and Darmstadt 98 who had the same number of points.
With the 3:0 (0:0) Bremen in second place have a point advantage over HSV and can even become second division champions on the last day of the game.
The other two Sunday games were about nothing.
Due to the poor goal difference, 1. FC Nürnberg only had theoretical chances of promotion, but took this last straw with the clear 3-0 (2-0) defeat at Holstein Kiel.
Dynamo Dresden, which was already determined as a participant in the relegation game to remain in the league, played 2-2 (0-1) in Karlsruhe.
Werder Bremen didn't need a strong performance at Erzgebirge Aue to keep their options open for direct promotion back to the Bundesliga.
On the contrary, it was Aue who seemed to have regained courage after the fixed descent.
The ball landed in the net through Tom Baumgart with the first push (1st minute).
But Dimitrij Nazarov had previously been offside.
Bremen, where Ömer Toprak, who had returned from a calf problem, had to be replaced injured (35'), invested a little more after the initial shock, but rarely came dangerously in front of the Auer Tor.
A defender had the best chance in a weak offensive game: Romano Schmid narrowly missed the shot after a strong push through from Marvin Duksch (38th).
Aue, on the other hand, tried again and again without success from afar and led to the break with 6:4 shots on goal.
Bremen came back on the pitch with more pressure, stayed close after an unsuccessful corner and took the lead through a sharp cross from Leonardo Bittencourt through defender Marco Friedl (49').
Bremen then stayed in front, but had the best opportunity with Schmid's long-range shot from 25 meters (67').
Schmid later had to be replaced after a serious collision with Dirk Carlson.
The Aue defender was treated on the pitch for a few minutes, but was then able to leave the pitch himself while he was conscious.
Joker Niklas Schmidt and budget striker Niclas Füllkrug then used the additional stoppage time.
First, Schmidt Füllkrug put the ball in the far corner for a flick (90' + 2), then Füllkrug served Schmidt on the five (90' + 6).
