Montauban is inconsolable twenty-four hours after losing one of his rugby players.

Kelly Meafua, Samoan third line of the local club, playing in Pro D2, father of three children, and soon a fourth, died Saturday morning at 31 years old.

The former Samoan international jumped from a twenty-two meter high bridge in the Tarn in the early hours of 6.30am as he left a nightclub in the city center after celebrating the success of his team, the Montalbanaise Sports Union in Narbonne (48-40) in the last home game of the season for which he started.

“I attended the searches, it was hard…Kelly meant a lot to me.

I had brought him during my visit to Béziers, I left and found him here.

I appreciated him immensely.

He was a really good guy.

I lost one of my guys, it's not easy to live with, it's very difficult.

The shock is immense, confides Montauban coach David Gérard, who was reached by telephone this Sunday by the team.

I've been very busy since this morning, there are a lot of things to manage, calls to make.

Everyone is very touched.

The players themselves remade the film yesterday of a tragic night when they lost one of their own.

“I didn't go out to a nightclub, but we had all had a drink before at the stadium to celebrate the victory against Narbonne and to celebrate the guys who were leaving at the end of the season, says a player from Montauban.

When I got up I saw the messages on our WhatsApp loop, it's hard to read.

I still do not understand.

We then met up with a few to discuss, to support each other, but what is it hard… ”
