Chinese tennis player Peng Shuai, whose personal situation has been worrying since November after her accusations against a former Chinese leader, was mistakenly announced by the Rome tournament on Sunday in her training schedule.
The appearance of the name of the former world No.1 in doubles raised some questions but it was quickly replaced by that of her compatriot and namesake Zhang Shuai, 40th player in the world, well registered in the Italian tournament.
“It was obviously a mistake made on Saturday when compiling Sunday's training schedule.
This was changed quite quickly this morning,” the organizers told AFP.
Always so many questions
The situation of Peng Shuai, 36, has sparked a lot of questions and interest since she accused a former Chinese leader in early November of forcing her to have sex.
After her remarks made on a social network and quickly deleted from the Chinese internet, she had disappeared, causing concern, until she spoke by videoconference with the president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), Thomas Bach, November 21.
Since then, Peng Shuai has made a few rare appearances, notably during the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
At the Rome tournament, which begins Monday for women, Zhang Shuai will meet Italian Martina Trevisan in the first round.
