With his first win since January 2021, Swiss tennis star Stan Wawrinka has reached the second round of the Masters 1000 tournament in Rome.
The 37-year-old won his opening match against the American Reilly Opelka on Monday after a significant deficit 3: 6, 7: 5, 6: 2.
Wawrinka had to take a break from March last year due to a complicated foot injury and only returned to the ATP tour at the beginning of April at the tournament in Monte Carlo.
However, he failed right at the start.
He celebrated his last win to date in the first round of the Australian Open 2021.
The Swiss is a three-time winner of Grand Slam tournaments, he won the Australian Open in 2014, he won the French Open in 2015 and in 2016 he won the US Open.
