Is Marcel Sabitzer about to leave FC Bayern after just one season?

The 28-year-old's agent clarifies the midfielder's future.

Munich - It was a season to forget for Marcel Sabitzer.

The long-time top performer and captain of RB Leipzig switched from the Red Bulls to the Isar last summer to take the next step in his career.

FC Bayern had transferred 15 million euros to the competitor from Saxony to bring the Austrian to Säbener Straße to see his long-time coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Sabitzer should complement Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka in central midfield and thus strengthen the Bayern squad across the board.

After one season, those responsible now have to draw a mixed conclusion.

FC Bayern: Despite disappointing performance - Sabitzer wants to start "new attack" in Munich

Although Sabitzer can show 25 appearances for Bayern in the Bundesliga, 17 times came from the bench.

In the games that Sabitzer was allowed to play from the start, the 28-year-old often fell short of expectations.

The Austrian made his only league appearance over 90 minutes in the 2-1 defeat against Gladbach at the start of the second half of the season, when Bayern had to field a skeleton squad due to the corona virus.

This is one of the reasons why there has been speculation in the past few days as to whether Sabitzer wants to leave the club after just one season and thus generate transfer income for Bayern.

However, on Tuesday, someone who should know contradicted these reports.

In an interview with Sky Sport, Sabitzer's advisor Roger Wittmann stated that his protégé also sees himself at Bayern in the coming season.

"What we have decided is that our affairs are clear and that Marcel (Sabitzer

) starts a new attack here," said Wittmann.

Sabitzer wants to stay at Bayern: consultant confirms - "He has to attack very stable"

“In Leipzig he is out as a leader.

Then he came here without preparation with Corona and injuries.

Then, of course, a flywheel starts to move.

That has hit him now,” Wittmann explains the reasons why Sabitzer has not met expectations.

As a result, there were no plans to say goodbye after just one season.

"Not at all.

On the contrary: He is dissatisfied with the whole situation and wants to have it cleaned up for himself.

He has to attack very steadily.

That's his job," said the Austrian's advisor.

Sabitzer, who still has a contract with Bayern until 2025, wants to be the focus of coach Nagelsmann again next season.

Then the cards in the Bayern squad could be reshuffled again.

With Corentin Tolisso, the contract of a direct competitor of Sabitzer expires.

However, the Austrian is under pressure from youngster Jamal Musiala, who was also used in defensive midfield by Nagelsmann this season, and from potential newcomers from Munich.

With Ryan Gravenberch from Ajax Amsterdam and Konrad Laimer from RB Leipzig, two other possible competitors of Sabitzer should be at the top of Bayern's wish list.
