Football writes the craziest stories - now even for other sports, such as ski jumping.

And all because of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Wisla - The sports calendar in some sports is mixed up this year.

Also in ski jumping, winter sports are experiencing a novelty.

For example, new venues are being tried out in Formula 1, the Asian region is to be developed in alpine skiing, and in football the 2022 men's World Cup will take place in Qatar in November and December.

And it is precisely because of this World Championships that there is an absurd collision of dates in ski jumping, which ensures that the start of the World Cup season - mind you the winter time, not the summer Grand Prix - takes place on mats.

So that the competitions overlap as little as possible with the football tournament (November 21st to December 18th), the World Cup in Wisla/Poland will be brought forward from December 5th to November 6th.

Ski jumping start postponed due to the 2022 World Cup - hybrid version

“We had to react to the World Cup.

That's why we're starting the season so early,” said Race Director Sandro Pertile.

Due to the early timing, the two individual competitions in Poland are to be held in a kind of hybrid version on ice track and mats.

But that was just one of many dates, others fall victim to the World Cup.

For the German jumpers around Karl Geiger, this means that if they want to see the German national team play against Spain, they have to hurry to get home.

The weekend in Ruka/Finland (November 26th and 27th) collides with the preliminary round.

The Germans will play against the Spaniards on November 27 at 8 p.m. (CET).

The weekend in Titisee-Neustadt (December 10th and 11th) with the quarter-finals and the tour dress rehearsal in Engelberg (December 17th and 18th) with the World Cup final.

Whether and when the Germans will play will be decided in the preliminary round, in which they will face Spain, Japan, Costa Rica and New Zealand.

In February, the ski jumpers are also planning to return to the USA, where they will be jumping at Iron Mountain.
