The International Football Association "FIFA" announced today that it has opened an investigation into the allegations that Ecuador paid a player ineligible to participate with it in the FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

And the Chilean Football Association said last week: It has evidence that “Byron Castillo,” the Barcelona back-back Guayaquil, who played in eight matches in Ecuador’s qualifying matches for the finals, was born in Tomaco, Colombia in 1995, and not in the Ecuadorean city of General Biamel Playas in 1998, as stated in his papers. Official and holds a forged passport and birth certificate.

Reuters quoted FIFA as saying in a statement that it had decided to open disciplinary proceedings in connection with the possible disqualification of Castillo in connection with the aforementioned matches.

In this context, the Ecuadorean Football Association and the Peruvian Football Association were invited to present their position to the FIFA Disciplinary Committee, while the Ecuadorean Football Association rejected Chile's allegations last week, describing them as baseless rumours.

However, Castillo's disqualification could cause problems for Ecuador and if Ecuador lose points in the matches in which Castillo has participated it will lose its current place in the Qatar Finals.

Ecuador is one of four South American teams that have qualified for the World Cup later this year, along with Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay, and fifth-placed Peru play a play-off next month.
