The Schongauer Damen 50 will compete in the Regionalliga Southeast this summer.

It is the highest league in this age group.

It's a return for some players.

Schongau – Paula Feith and Luise Humml have come full circle.

With the ladies 50 of the TC Schongau, the two will play in the regional league south-east this summer season - there are no more leagues above that in this age group.

13 years ago, in the summer of 2009, Feith and Humml (at that time still with the surname Wöhnl) already played in the regional league.

At that time, the women 40 only just missed out on staying up in sixth place.

The narrow 4:5 defeat against direct competitor TC Hersching played a role in this.

This season, the Schongau women want to stay in the top division.

"We're in good spirits," says team leader Feith.

The TC women have already had to deal with five of the seven opposing teams in the past winter round.

The women from Schongau finished the indoor season in fourth place with a balanced score of 7:7 points.

A comparison is difficult, since only four teams were played in winter, but still: The women from Schongau were on an equal footing with TC Höhenkirchen, TSV Unterhaching, SV Helfendorf, TC Bad Endorf and SV Lohhof or even were better.

The Franconian teams DJK Mömbris and TSV Altenfurt are also playing outdoors.

The number of players per team was a main reason why the Schongau women, after two successful years in the Bayernliga - they won the title in 2020 and came second in 2021 - are now trying to go one step higher.

In the regional league, teams of six continue to play, in the Bayernliga only in teams of four.

The goal for the season is a place in the middle of the table

"We have a base of eight players," emphasizes Feith.

And you want to give them the opportunity to compete together.

Compared to the last summer season, the squad "remained basically the same," says Feith.

Jutta Kiesl-Klingbeil is a new addition to the team.

Before that she played at TC Feldafing;

In 2021, the team won the title in the Landesliga Süd.

The Schongauer Damen 50 gave themselves the finishing touches for the season as part of a training camp weekend.

There were five of them, reports Feith, who prepared themselves.

Two team members used a trip to Turkey to get match practice.

According to Feith, a place in the middle of the table is the goal of the team.

The descent "would be a real shame".

Because then the Schongau women would have to compete in a league for teams of four.

"We don't want that," emphasizes Feith.

This circumstance “is an additional motivation for us”.

The women from Schongau don't want to think about the title, at least not at first.

And yet a top placement would be a nice thing.

"You can then play for the German championship title," explains Feith.

The best teams from the four German tennis regions (west, south-west, south-east and north-east) determine the German club champions after the season.

Last year, SV Helfendorf (2nd place) from the Southeast Regional League was at the start.

The host Marienburger SC won the final tournament.

According to the game plan, the season for the Schongau women begins next Saturday, May 14th, with the home game against TC Höhenkirchen.

The game may be postponed, however, because several players at TC Schongau are ill.
