DFB star Matthias Ginter is moving from Borussia Mönchengladbach to SC Freiburg.

He is very disappointed in his former club.

Mönchengladbach - The transfer of Matthias Ginter from Borussia Mönchengladbach to SC Freiburg surprised many observers.

In the Gladbach fan podcast "Mit Gedacht" the central defender reproduced the course of the separation and was not stingy with criticism of the former sports director Max Eberl, who announced his resignation in tears at the end of January.

Matthias Ginter: "I was told that they plan with me as one of the faces..."

In February 2021 there were the first talks about a contract extension, Ginter reports in the podcast.

"I've been told that I'm being planned as one of the faces and as a future captain.

I was very, very happy,” the 28-year-old recalls.

However, after Marco Rose changed coaches to Adi Hütter, the club interrupted the contract negotiations with reference to the corona pandemic.

During the EM 2021, Ginter's advisor held talks with Eberl, as the professional revealed: "He informed me that the ideal solution for Max Eberl and the club would be to sell me in the summer".

The family man describes the decision as "hard and bitter".

and added: "Something broke."

Borussia Mönchengladbach: "You felt helpless"

But then Ginter stayed.

In October 2021, the national player finally left.

"Max approached my advisor, who at first thought it was a joke.

It was an alibi offer to say afterwards: 'We made him an offer,'" said the outraged Freiburg native.

Ginter rejected reports of offers for an annual salary of four million euros.

The club from the Lower Rhine did not allow a statement after the announcement of his departure, Ginter claims.

"That was the hardest time because you couldn't defend yourself.

You felt helpless,” recalls the 46-time international.

Borussia Mönchengladbach: Virkus upset about Ginter's statements

Gladbach's new sports director Roland Virkus makes no secret of his anger at Ginter's statements.

"I have learned in life never to speak badly of other people and never badly of the old employer.

You do not do that.

And I clearly told Matze that," said Virkus.

But why did the national player choose SC Freiburg?

Ginter speaks of “three to four” options in the Bundesliga.

"For me, there is nothing more special than returning to the sports club and to my home country," emphasized the native of Freiburg, who played between 2005 and 2014 in youth and later for SC Freiburg, after the announcement of his return.

"The development of the entire club, the potential of the team and the special way of communicating with the club officials" convinced him.

"A player of this quality, with this history, has to want something like that for himself.

He really wanted to.

And then we really wanted to, of course," Freiburg coach Christian Streich was amazed at the signing.

FC Bayern also has another obligation to report.

Italian striker Manuel Pisano joins the record champions.
