Ice Hockey World Championship 2022

The 85th Ice Hockey World Championship will take place between May 13th and 29th.

Venues are the Finnish cities of Helsinki and Tampere.

A total of 16 nations are taking part in the tournament. Both Russia and Belarus were excluded because of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine, which violates international law.

Canada and Finland are the top favorites, while the German selection is given an outsider chance.

The World Cup live on TV

As in previous years, Sport1 has secured the rights for the World Cup.

The niche broadcaster from Munich broadcasts all games of the German national team as well as other selected games on TV and live stream.

Magenta TV also shows all matches of the DEB selection as well as all knockout games.

favourites

The exclusion of the Russian team benefits the top nations in particular.

The Sbornaja was considered in advance as a major competitor to Canada.

The US stars now have a better chance of making it into a World Cup final for the first time since 1960 (!).

Hosts Finland, after all world champions in 2019, calculate a lot in front of their home crowd.

Germany only failed in the semi-finals in Latvia a year ago, and reaching the top four is a declared goal again this year.

With Philipp Grubauer, Moritz Seider and Tim Stützle there are three NHL professionals in the squad, superstar Leon Draisaitl is not there.
