Klaus Hofmann announces his resignation as president and managing director of the Bavarian Swabians after FC Augsburg's Bundesliga relegation.

The search for a successor is ongoing.

Munich/Augsburg – Klaus Hofmann is no longer president and managing director of FC Augsburg.

The 54-year-old from the Allgäu has resigned from his posts with the Bavarian Swabians.

The Bundesliga club announced this Friday.

Under his guidance, Augsburg recently managed to stay up in the Bundesliga for the eleventh time in a row.

FC Augsburg: Klaus Hofmann resigns as managing director and president

Hofmann announced health reasons for his resignation without going into detail.

"For some time now, I've been suffering from increasing health problems due to the double burden of FCA and my company.

From my point of view, this also means that I can no longer deal with both topics with the usual and necessary care.

Therefore, after successfully staying up in the league, I decided with a heavy heart to give up my offices as President of the eV and as Managing Director of the KGaA and to concentrate on my company.

Health is certainly the most important thing in life,” the long-standing official is quoted as saying in a club announcement.

The club regretted Klaus Hofmann's resignation, but of course respected his decision.

The fact that health is our greatest asset has not only been felt to us by the corona pandemic in recent years.

We keep our fingers crossed for him and wish him only the best in terms of health," said Thomas Müller, Chairman of the Supervisory Board, in a statement on Hofmann's decision.

"Klaus Hofmann played a major role in the development of the club during his time as president since December 2014, so that FCA is now as stable as we see it today.

Not least because of his donation for the youngsters when he took office, which was the starting signal for the infrastructure measures there, he pushed the development,” Müller is further quoted as saying: “Therefore, we would like to expressly thank him for his voluntary commitment to our FC Augsburg over the past seven and a half years."
