The national team counts an eighth place at Olympic Games and a tenth place at World Championships among their best results.

The Kazakh national team plays at international level for the Kazakhstan Ice Hockey Federation and joined the International Ice Hockey Federation in 1992 as a member.

In addition to 13 European and two North American nations, Kazakhstan is the only team that represents the Asian continent.

As part of the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championships, Kazakhstan is one of eight teams in Group A and will face Denmark, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, Switzerland and Slovakia in the preliminary round.

All preliminary round matches of this group will take place in Helsinki at Helsingin Jäähalli, Group B matches at Nokia Arena in Tampere.

Team boss of the Kazakhs is Yuri Mikhailis, he is supported by his three assistant coaches Rinat Abitov, Maxim Semyonov and Andrei Shayanov.

The national team of Kazakhstan: successes and defeats

The Kazakh national team is one of the most successful Asian ice hockey teams.

While Kazakhstan was ranked 15th in the world after the 2021 Ice Hockey World Championships, Japan and China, for example, were far behind in ranks 25 and 27. The Kazakh national team won their first international match on April 11, 1992 in Saint Petersburg against Ukraine with one result by 5:0. A 52:1 victory against Thailand should go down in team history as the greatest success.

The team experienced its biggest defeat in 1998 with a 15-0 loss against Canada, which is considered the favorite for the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championship.

The Kazakh national team qualified to take part in two Olympic Games and in 1998 they finished eighth.
