Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton has disappointed so far this season.

A former racing driver thinks he knows why.

Munich - For Lewis Hamilton, the race in Miami was the continuation of a bad start to the season.

Once again, the record world champion in Formula 1 finished sixth behind his teammate George Russell.

In the overall classification, Hamilton is 23 points behind the 24-year-old and at times even seems a bit lacking in motivation.

An ex-racer wants to know the reasons for the Englishman's declining performance curve.

Formula 1: "It doesn't fit at all between Mercedes and Hamilton"

Two-time Dakar Rally winner Tim Coronel shared

his impressions with the Dutch version of

motorsport.com .

"It doesn't fit at all between Mercedes and Hamilton," claims Coronel, citing the radio contact between Hamilton and his team.

One reason for this is the strong performance of teammate Russell.

"Then you suddenly have the wrong momentum and what Hamilton does happens: he looks for excuses," says the Dutchman.

Russell is also used to getting everything out of a bad car from his time at Williams.

Formula 1: Hamilton "too busy with other nonsense"

There was a scene in Miami that Coronel sees as symptomatic of the current Mercedes situation.

George Russell stayed behind and speculated on a safety car.

A violent crash by Lando Norris helped the former Williams driver hold his position.

Hamilton, on the other hand, was in the pits.

“Russell uses these chances because he feels good.

He works with us,” comments Colonel.

He criticizes Hamilton for putting too much responsibility on the team.

"But as a driver you have to think for yourself," says the 50-year-old.

Coronel thinks he knows what the 37-year-old is thinking about instead.

Hamilton had recently been enraged by the new ban on jewelry in the car, and the Briton even threatened a start boycott.

"Hamilton is way too busy with his piercings, his jewels and other nonsense right now for actual racing," Coronel believes.

Incidentally, after the race, Hamilton was busy with a very unusual photo.

On May 22, Hamilton proved his critics wrong at the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona.

The race starts at 3 p.m., tz.de offers a live ticker as always.
