It is a small disappointment that the tricolor camp experienced this Saturday during the qualifications for the Grand Prix de France.

World champion Fabio Quartararo only posted the 4th fastest time in Q2, thus letting the front row slip away.

For his part, Johann Zarco will also start from the 2nd row, in 6th place after setting the track record during free practice 3. The Italian Enea Bastianini inserts himself between the two French drivers (5th ).

Pole position goes to another transalpine, Francesco Bagnaia, winner two weeks ago in Spain after a very difficult start to the season.

He even took the luxury of erasing the record set by Johann Zarco.

The Ducati team pulls off a full card as its teammate, Australian Jack Miller, takes 2nd place.

Aprilia rider Aleix Espargaro, runner-up to Quartararo in the World Championship standings, completes the podium.

Quartararo wants to maintain its lead at the top of the World Championship

A frustrating outcome for Quartararo who had temporarily taken this pole position for several minutes during Q2.

But the Yamaha rider couldn't contain his rival from Ducati who robbed him of this provisional first place just 1 minute 30 from the end of this Q2.

"El Dibalo" has therefore not won a 3rd consecutive pole position on the Sarthe circuit and will try on Sunday to maintain its lead at the top of the World Championship.

The Spaniard Aleix Espargaro is 7 points behind the French, while Bagnaia remains at a good distance (5th at 33 points).

Johann Zarco is 7th overall.
