Lucy Klein is about to have her greatest sporting experience to date.

Erding – The ice hockey rounds are over, now the world championships are still on the program as a kind of highlight of the season.

While the German men have been fighting for medals in Finland since Friday, the female U18s will be in action in the USA at the beginning of June.

Lucy Klein from Erding is also there.

"I'm really looking forward to it," enthuses the 16-year-old, who can look back on a great season.

Klein played in the U17s of TSV Erding, but was allowed to play twice for the women of ERC Ingolstadt.

With this team she became German Champion.

Now comes the icing on the cake with participation in the World Cup.

An extended squad had been invited to the preparatory course in Füssen.

"Actually, it was said that the final squad would only be announced after the second course, a few days before departure, but then they told us that the squad would be nominated right away," says the junior player from Erding.

So all the players were then asked for one-on-one talks with the coaches, and they were told whether they were there or not.

Klein will be there, it's her first appearance at the World Cup.

The German girls get the finishing touches in the second course, which will take place again in Füssen from May 26th to 29th.

Then it's off to the World Cup in Madison (Wisconsin) in the USA, where Germany's opponents in Group B are Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

Group A features Canada, Finland, Sweden and hosts USA.

The 16-year-old doesn't yet know what to expect, but there is definitely a lot of excitement and anticipation.

"I'm really excited," admits Lucy Klein.
