PSV's professional manager: "I did not meet the goal - because of Zehavi's miss"

Summary: PSV Eindhoven - Neumichan 0: 3 (Sport 1)
PSV Eindhoven has already entered the summary stage, although it has one more game left in the protocol in the Dutch league today (Sunday, 15:30, Sport4) against Zwolle.
Winning the Dutch Cup may have sweetened the luxury club's season a bit, but the non-qualification for the Champions League - it seems - still obscures the club's seniors.
Remember, PSV was a step away from qualifying for the home stage, but Eran Zehavi's big miss in front of an empty net in the rematch against Benfica Lisbon was one of the reasons for the relegation, and from there the team's European campaign deteriorated, until it ended in the Conference League quarterfinals.

"It was a good season for us. Unfortunately, I did not meet the goals I set for myself just because Zehavi's kick went to the crossbar and not to the net," the team's professional manager Ton Harbrands said today in an interview with the Dutch media.
Team reporter Rick Alfrink also noted this morning that "if Zehavi's ball against Benfica had come in, the whole PSV season would have looked different. On the other hand, it's wisdom in retrospect. You can't judge someone on just one ball kicked into the crossbar."
In his season summary column, Alfrink even claimed that Zahavi "got the full credit from Roger Schmidt, but his output was meager, despite all his hard work."
The statistics do not lie.

On the other hand, the numbers do not necessarily support this claim.
Zahavi scored 11 league goals this season and cooked up 7, but his stats were adversely affected by the injury that caused him to miss more than two months.
When you look at his numbers in relation to the minutes he received, a different picture emerges: for example, Zahavi is ranked second in the Dutch league in goals per 90 minutes (0.65), with only Sebastian Haller from Ajax ranked above him.
Zahavi even scored 0.42 goals per 90 minutes - fourth in the league.
In total, Zehavi scored a goal every 139 minutes - which ranks him sixth in the Dutch league.
An interesting statistic concerns the amount of goals scored by Zahavi in the second half.
In Maccabi Tel Aviv and also in the Gwangju R&F uniform, a lot of golds to score in the second half, especially in the last minutes.
The last two years in the Netherlands reflect a different trend: both because he has been replaced many times by Schmidt in the last few minutes and also because of the signs of age and declining fitness, Zahavi is more conquering in the first half.
This season he scored 7 league goals in the first half compared to 4 in the second half.
Last season he had 8 league goals in the first half compared to 3 in the second - after years in China and Israel where he scored more in the second half of the game.
