For the first time in Israel, a team of Paralympic athletics has been opened, already numbering 30 athletes, with the aim of bringing their share to the upcoming Paralympic Games in Paris 2024.
The person in charge of the new project is the director of "Negev Athletes" Baruch Shapira, who recently won the Lifetime Achievement Award (and even donated part of a sum).
Shapira said: "We may not get to Paris, although there are some who have already set a goal to get there, but in the next games there is no reason not to see athletes. We have a lot of great talents, I raise them together with my son Idan and work in front of the Warrior House in Be'er Sheva.
"I myself am an IDF invalid, when I have platinum and when I come to visit or tell about a battle heritage, they started approaching me and discovered that athletics is very interesting, with most of them engaging in throwing professions, such as javelin and iron ball throwing."
It should be remembered that in the last games in Tokyo, he represented Israel in the shot put, Alexander Alexienko, but the industry is not as developed as swimming and very few athletes are involved in it in Israel.
The new project will try to change the situation.
