The fast-paced canoe racing has a long tradition.
Important information about the first appearance at the European Championships in Munich.
Munich – From August 18th to 21st, 2022, 675 canoeists will bring their sports equipment to the water as part of the second European Championships 2022 to choose the best of the best in 41 medal decisions.
The venue for canoe racing is Munich's traditional Olympic regatta facility, which was built in 1972 for the Olympic Games.
Canoe racing at the European Championships: General information about the fast-paced sport
50 years after the Olympic Games in Munich, canoe races will be one of the nine sports of the second European Championships.
Depending on the number of participating boats, direct qualification for the semi-finals or the final is possible.
In some disciplines, the repechage brings the chance to move up into the race for the first places.
In the para rowing decisions, the athletes are divided into three different classes depending on the severity of the disability.

Favorite teams and stars of the European Championships in canoe racing
Since the respective elimination competitions of the participating nations are mostly still running (as of April 2022), only the favorites of the individual and team competitions from the current season can be named so far.
The German team has always been very strong in almost all disciplines.
The strength of the successful German men's eight, who has won six Olympic gold medals, 17 world championship titles and 18 European Championship gold medals in the history of canoe racing, is legendary (as of 2018).
The most important opponents for both men and women include the Netherlands, Italy and Great Britain.
Strong athletes from Romania and Hungary are reaching for the medals from Eastern Europe.
By the way: Since 1954, women have also been rowing at the European Championships.
Canoe Racing: The Dates at the European Championships
The comprehensive competition program of the rowing disciplines extends over the days from August 11th to 14th, 2022. On the first day, the preliminary heats and repechage starts at 9 a.m. and end at around 4:30 p.m.
The second day is also dedicated to qualifying for the finals.
In addition to other repechage runs, the spectators will experience the important course distribution runs and the first quarter, semi- and C-finals, which will also be held on Saturday morning.
On Saturday afternoon and Sunday, the fans along the water course and their athletes will be cheering for gold, silver and bronze in canoe racing at the European Championships.
The para runs are part of the program.
On Saturday and Sunday it's all about the exciting medal decisions in the individual races and teams.
From 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, the boats go into the water, initially starting with B finals, further repechage and in the final sprint with eleven fights for gold, silver and bronze.
From 8:50 a.m. on Sunday, the focus will be on the C, B and A finals and will select another 13 new European champions, including in the para-disciplines double sculls and fours with helmswoman/helmsman.
The highlight of the day will be the legendary men's traditional eight-boat race.
Canoe racing at the European Championships: Tickets on the water of a famous venue
At 2.23 kilometers long and 140 meters wide, this artificial body of water at the Olympic facility in Munich-Oberschleißheim offers perfect conditions for all disciplines of modern canoe racing and has been there since 2018 even listed as a monument.
The alignment with regard to the cardinal direction and wind conditions served the goal of creating the fairest possible conditions for everyone on the water during planning and implementation.
Tickets for all events have been available since 2021.
Tickets can be booked easily via the organizer's website.
Prices range from 10 to 50 euros for day tickets and kick-off offers.
Season tickets for the complete canoe racing events of the European Championships 2022 cost between 50 and 120 euros.
The most expensive tickets offer seats in the finish area.
