Since climbing is still a very young competitive sport for many spectators, it makes sense to acquire general basic knowledge.
This makes it easier to follow the different competitions.
At the European Championships in Munich 2022, climbing will take place in four different disciplines, in which the participants have to find their route as quickly and safely as possible on prepared training walls with grip and stepping stones.
Lead: Here the athletes conquer a route on an overhanging wall while being secured with a rope.
Whoever reaches the highest point in six minutes is the winner.
From up to 80 starters, 26 reach the semi-finals.
The top eight will compete in the final.
Bouldering: When bouldering, the athletes move at a maximum height of four meters and contest a given route unsecured with as few attempts as possible.
The qualification extends over five rounds, the semi-finals and the final over four each.
Speed: Two opponents compete side by side on identical routes against each other.
Whoever reaches the 15 meter mark first wins and advances to the next round.
Bouldering & Lead: Both disciplines are combined here.
