Two months to the opening of the 21st Maccabiah: A unique photo exhibition was inaugurated at Ben Gurion Airport | Israel Today

Two months before the opening of the games, the 21st Maccabiah today (Tuesday) inaugurated a unique exhibition at Ben Gurion Airport, which includes historical photographs alongside contemporary photographs of past sports events alongside leading athletes over the past 90 years.  

All the photographs displayed in the exhibition were painted using groundbreaking applications based on deep learning technology from the Israeli high-tech company MyHeritage "".

In addition to painting, the photographs were reworked in a process that includes sharpening, repairing damage and restoring the original colors in the faded color photographs.

The exhibition is spread along the foyer leading to Duty Free and will run until August 1st. 

The event, which took place at Ben Gurion Airport, was attended by, among others, the Minister of Aliyah and Absorption, Pnina Tamano Sheta; the chairman of Maccabi World Movement, Amir Peled;

Among the prominent photos displayed in the exhibition is the opening ceremony of the first Maccabiah held in 1932, in which 390 athletes from 18 countries competed, along with a photo from the last Maccabiah held in 2017 at the Teddy Stadium in Jerusalem in front of 30,000 spectators;

Super sports and athletic legend, Esther Roth Shakharov, in training at Wingate in the 1960s, alongside a contemporary photo from her home;

The runner Juman Jubran, Israeli champion in the seven-meter and 400-meter dash and alongside her one of the athletes who participated in the running competition during the first Maccabiah in 1932, ignores the Jewish Agnes Celtic demonstrates at the age of 98 and in the photo during her participation in the fifth Maccabiah in 1957. The great Reuben abounded during the Sixth Maccabiah in 1961 alongside a contemporary image, and more.

"90 years ago, the first Maccabiah took place before the establishment of the State of Israel, and since then tens of thousands of athletes have participated in the second largest sporting event in the world," said Maccabiah chairman Arik Zeevi. The pictures in the exhibition show the values ​​of the Maccabiah and Israeli sports - fair play, mutual respect, the victory of body and spirit and the pursuit of excellence. " 

Minister of Aliyah and Absorption Pnina Tamano Sheta said: "I congratulate the unique photo exhibition of the great moments of Maccabiah which will show the power and glory of the Maccabiah to passers-by at Ben Gurion Airport in the coming months. "I am happy that out of the thousands of Jewish athletes who come to compete in Israel at Maccabiah, about 5% of them fall in love with Israel and choose to immigrate to Israel and establish a new life here, and that is a benefit for all of us."
