Big disappointment for the basketball players of SpVgg Altenerding.

Altenerding – Altenerding's basketball players suffered a razor-thin 55:57 defeat in the final of the promotion round against TSV Munich-Forstenried, not least because of bad luck with injuries.

But promotion to the district league is still possible.

It was an exciting and competitive game in front of almost 250 spectators who pushed their team forward.

There was a great atmosphere in the Korbinian-Aigner-Gymnasium.

It started relatively evenly in the first quarter.

Both teams played in a controlled manner, neither team was able to break away in the first ten minutes.

However, you could feel the nervousness on the Altenerdinger side.

Many easy points were dropped, many open threes missed their target.

Nevertheless, the hosts kept the game open.

Four top performers had started ailing, including the experienced guards Masi Amani (ligament strain) and Krsto Milivojevic (bruised knee).

Milivojevic in particular was unstoppable in the first quarter and caused problems for the opposing defence.

Amani was tormented by cramps and his injury. Milivojevic then also injured a rib and had to retire.

Captain Jonah Richardson, Sascha Sukovic and Kris Vadasz weren't at their best either, which was obvious.

The second top scorer, Lorenz Wolf, was also missing with a cruciate ligament tear.

Forstenrieder took advantage of this weakness and went into half-time with a 28:24 lead.

At the beginning of the third quarter, Altenerding didn't fare any better.

TSV's very passive zone defense only allowed long-distance shots, and the battered Altenerdinger had no luck from the three-point line.

Forstenried extended his lead to 15 points to 44:29.

SpVgg coach Christos Takis Paraschidis took a break and rearranged the defense.

The change worked, his team made a 10-0 run, Forstenried faltered.

Luis Winkler in particular fought for every ball and was the top scorer with twelve points.

His colleague Vadasz was able to convince with a lot of rebounds and nine points.

Robert Csaki had a great start and was heavily involved in catching up in his first game with six points.

Thus the gap was reduced to five points to 39:44.

The last quarter was pure drama.

The Forstenrieders couldn't find a solution against the hosts' new form of defense and Altenerding managed to get within two points in the final seconds to make it 55:57.

Two seconds were still on the clock when Richardson threw from about nine yards, but placed the try a little short.

Despite the unfortunate defeat, the fans celebrated their team and this spectacular game.

However, Altenerding's dream of promotion is not over yet.

Now the SpVgg has to take the detour via a three-way tournament.

The winner then advances to the district league.

Luis Winkler 12, Kristof Vadasz 9, Krsto Milivojevic 8, Robert Csaki 6, Jonah Richardson 6, Sasa Sukovic 5, Azim Amani 4, Emanuel Grismeyer 3, Justing Ledbetter 2
