Diego Contento got the treble with FC Bayern - and is now without a club.
In the meantime, he could even imagine a move to BVB.
Munich – Diego Contento's path at Bayern almost looks like it was drawn on the drawing board.
At the age of four he started as a youth, made the leap to the amateurs and in 2010 made his breakthrough as a professional.
He won the treble in 2013 and was in the final of the Champions League in 2010 and 2012.
He still identifies with the record champions today.
"FC Bayern is never over," he says.
But now he's 32 - and without a club.
Contento's contract with SV Sandhausen expired in 2021.
Since then he has been waiting for an offer from a new club.
In an interview with
tz.de and Fußball Vorort
, the left-back, who is currently keeping fit with the district league club FC Aschheim, is optimistic that he will soon find a club.
"I'm fit and have worked a lot - I'm ready," said Contento.
The only thing he categorically rules out is a move to Munich – at least not to the Blues, TSV 1860. “Mia san mia!
I don't have to say more about it," Contento explains with a laugh in the interview.
In 2014 he left the record champions and joined Girondins Bordeaux.
There he completed 78 games in Ligue 1 in four years.
FC Bayern: ex-FCB star Diego Contento to BVB?
"Now I would go immediately"
Name: Diego Armando Valentin Contento |
Age: May 1, 1990 (32 years old) |
Position: left-back |
Club: without a club |
Achievements: German Champion (2010, 2013, 2014), Champions League Winner (2013), DFB Cup Winner (2010, 2013, 2014) |
When asked if he would have switched to direct competitor Borussia Dortmund like Niklas Süle does today?
"Never say never in football," said Contento:
"It always depends on the overall package.
But if I got the offer today, I would go straight away.”
When asked about Süle, Contento says:
"Everyone has to decide for themselves.
He must have had his reasons for moving to BVB.
You have to respect that."
But Contento can't really understand it, as he reveals: "You also have to see what the player Süle has at FC Bayern.
But well, that's his choice.
Of course, I can’t really have a say in that.”
FC Bayern: Discussions about Süle?
Contento understands - "Always had the appreciation"
DFB star Süle had rejected a contract offer from Bayern in spring and decided to switch to BVB.
There was much discussion about his decision afterwards.
There was also talk of a lack of appreciation on the part of the club.

Last weekend, the central defender gave up a place in the squad for the game at VfL Wolfsburg.
"That doesn't speak for the player," said Uli Hoeneß on Sunday: "We always talk about appreciation.
Niklas Süle certainly didn't bring that to the club.
I found this action disastrous."
In addition, one should forget "the myth that he earns less in Dortmund than in Munich".
Compared to Süle, Contento always felt that he was in good hands during his time at Säbener Straße.
"I've always had the respect at FC Bayern," says the native of Munich: "For me, it was the best 20 years there.
I had the best players, the best coaches around me.
What more could you want?"
