Eintracht Frankfurt has won the second major international title in the club's history: in the Europa League final in Seville, the Bundesliga side defeated Scottish opponents FC Rangers 5-4 on penalties, after 120 minutes it was 1-1 (1-1, 0-0) confessed

The team from Glasgow took the lead through Joe Aribo (57th minute), Rafael Borré scored for Frankfurt (69th).

Almost 42 years to the day after the triumph in the Uefa Cup, Borré also converted the decisive penalty and shot Eintracht to victory, which entitles the team of coach Oliver Glasner to start in the Champions League next season.

Frankfurt had won its preliminary round group and then defeated Real Betis, FC Barcelona and West Ham United in sometimes intoxicating games.

Glasgow had eliminated Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig on the way to the final.

Above all, the victory in Barcelona had given the Frankfurters the status of favorites before the final - and the team lived up to that most of the time.

At a good 30 degrees and in front of an impressive crowd of fans, the football game in southern Spain was not particularly high-class, but it was intense.

Eintracht captain Sebastian Rode felt that after five minutes.

He was hit in the head with his foot by John Lundstram and was left covered in blood.

After a treatment break of several minutes, Rode was able to continue playing with a bandage and a fresh jersey.

Frankfurt created the most chances – and the first too: Daichi Kamada dribbled through the Rangers defence, which was unable to clear properly.

The ball rebounded to Djibril Sow, whose shot from the edge of the penalty area then posed no problem for goalkeeper Allan McGregor (12th minute).

Ansgar Knauff made things significantly more dangerous.

The loan from BVB also dribbled undisturbed into the opposing penalty area and shot on goal from around twelve meters.

McGregor cleared with a strong save (20th).

It should remain the best chance of the first half.

After that, the Scots had their first shot, Aribo flicked just wide from 17 meters (26 ').

In a Lundstram header, SGE goalkeeper Kevin Trapp had to intervene for the first time (36th).

After the break, Frankfurt immediately put pressure on Rangers, and a deflected shot by Jesper Lindstrøm went just wide of the target.

Shortly thereafter, Frankfurt called for penalties: Connor Goldson had brought down Eintracht striker Borré in a tackle, but the Slovenian referee Slavko Vinčić allowed play to continue.

The goal then made the Scots.

Frankfurt's Brazilian defender Lucas Silva Melo, known as "Tuta", went into a run with Glasgow striker Aribo with a lead, but stumbled and had to watch Aribo score to make it 1-0.

Frankfurt's Kamada had a huge chance to equalize ten minutes later, but lobbed the ball over the goal in front of keeper McGregor (67').

Borré then had much less space but more success.

After a cross from Filip Kostic, the Colombian tipped the ball over the line to equalize (69').

Trapp saves Eintracht on penalties

Frankfurt was still pushing for the winning goal, but didn't create any more chances - it went into overtime.

Borré could have made it 2-1 for Eintracht there again, but Calvin Bassey interrupted him at the last moment (95').

Both teams were now clearly aware of the long season and the difficult conditions.

The forces decreased more and more, there were hardly any combinations.

Kevin Trapp then saved Frankfurt with a strong save on penalties.

The keeper threw himself into a Ryan Kent shot and moments later saved a James Tavernier free-kick.

After that it was over, the penalty shootout had to bring the decision.

Tavernier, Davis, Arfield and Roofe scored there for Glasgow, while Lenz, Hrustic, Kamada and Kostic converted for Eintracht.

Only Aaron Ramsey failed because of Trapp, Borré then made the triumph perfect.
