Geretsried – The Bavarian league ice hockey club ESC Geretsried had made it their goal to incorporate talent from their own offspring before last season.
But due to corona and communication problems, this did not work out so well at first.
Only after trainer Randy Neal took office did two juniors, Matthias Hölzl and Luis Huber, play regularly.
The ESC will continue to rely on the two 20-year-olds and center forward Michael Harrer (22) in the coming Bayernliga season.
"Our youngsters are an integral part of our squad," emphasizes press spokesman Tom Kinzel.
The new trainer Stefan Roth would have three talented and, above all, highly motivated junior staff at his disposal.
Luis Huber played five games in the first team before suffering a serious injury, recording one goal, one assist and four penalties.
After the U14, the striker moved from Geretsried to Bad Tölz, where he went through all the youth teams.
He then returned to the River Rats U20s.
All-rounder Hölzl: defender and attacker
An all-rounder is Matthias Hölzl, who can be used flexibly both as an attacker and as a defender.
The 20-year-old comes from Geretsried and was trained as a junior at EC Bad Tölz before returning to the ESC.
Hölzl was used in 14 Bayernliga games, recording two assists and eight penalties.
Harrer - important pillar in the team
Michael Harrer is an integral part of the team.
The 22-year-old striker from Reichersbeuern, who also played in Bad Tölz until the U20s, has continued to develop after moving to Geretsried in summer 2020.
In the past season, the son of former TuS defender Peter Harrer scored seven goals and five assists in 24 matches.
There were also 28 penalty minutes.
