Shortly before the game between Germany and Denmark at the Ice Hockey World Championships, a fire broke out in the hall in Helsinki.

DEB cracks and spectators are evacuated, the fire brigade arrives.

Munich/(Helsinki – Great excitement at the 2022 Ice Hockey World Championships in Finland! About half an hour before the start of the game between Germany and Denmark in Group A, the fire alarm went off in the hall in Helsinki. The 8,200-seat arena “Helsingin Jäähalli" was immediately evacuated and cleared, the fire brigade of the Finnish capital moved in.

The players of both teams also had to leave the catacombs.

According to the

SID

news agency, it smelled burnt in front of the hall in Helsinki.

The world association confirmed a fire shortly thereafter, "everyone is safe", there are "no injuries", said the IIHF.

According to Sport1 expert Andreas Niederberger, sports director Christian Künast from the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) had previously said that a small fire in the hall had been extinguished and that the fire brigade was checking the smoke development.

According to media reports, there was a cable fire.

Meanwhile, the players of the DEB team and their Danish opponents were waiting in an inner courtyard in front of the hall for further information - some in full gear and on skates.

Next to them were the fire brigade vehicles with blue lights.

The first face-off of the preliminary round match was actually scheduled for 3:20 p.m.

Just under an hour after the fire alarm, the German team was at least allowed to go back to the locker room in the adjacent training hall at around 4 p.m.

Künast reported to Sport1 about a "relaxed atmosphere" and "very good mood" in the national team.

However, before the evacuation, the players were on their way to warm up, "everyone was already loaded.

Now they have to get back up there, otherwise the risk of injury is too great,” said Künast.
