It was bad training without a weapon: shooter Iris Buchmayer was honored by district administrator Robert Niedergesäß as part of the sports awards.

Forester Iris Buchmayer appreciates the returned sense of community when shooting.
Ebersberg – Without a weapon, Iris Buchmayer tried not to rust by doing compensatory sports at home when training on the shooting range was not allowed due to the corona pandemic.
"But it's just not the same," says the 21-year-old shooter from Kirchseeon, summing up her efforts during the forced break.
She couldn't quite understand the restrictions on sport shooting caused by the pandemic: "I'm alone at the range and still wasn't allowed to do anything," she remembers.
When the shooting ranges were allowed to open again after almost two years, Buchmayer was immediately on the mat: "If you were previously in the routine, you get back into it relatively quickly," is her experience.
"Always nice" in the old warehouse
And she showed that right away when it started again: Together with the other two Ebersberger foresters Isabella Straub and Kerstin Fahl, Buchmayer took third place as a women's team at the German Championships in 2021 (KK 100 meters).
Accordingly, she was also happy about the honor from the district in the old warehouse: "It's really nice.
I've been shooting since 2013, so it's not my first time here, but it's always nice here," says Buchmayer happily.
Also because after the pandemic there is now more movement on the subject of honors.
She cannot yet say exactly where the medal will go: "I don't have a wall of honor due to the lack of space, but it will definitely be honored."
The sense of community is especially appreciated
Since the first championships since the pandemic, she has noticed what she appreciates so much about sport shooting: the sense of community.
"We also shoot in the team, everyone is responsible for themselves, but if someone is good, then that's not demeaned, everyone is happy for you.
Everyone is there for you,” says the 21-year-old with a satisfied smile.
In the next few weeks the Bavarian championship will continue.
And depending on that, the German.
"And in winter it's Bundesliga again," says Iris Buchmayer mischievously.
So no time for a breather.
She finally had enough rest now.
