Masks no longer compulsory on planes?

Not within Germany, this was the experience of skiing legend Maria Höfl-Riesch.

Munich – The weather is getting better, and so is the mood.

The corona restrictions are limited, it's summer in Germany.

But not all freedoms are back, there are still a few people who insist on wearing a mask.

Winter sports legend Maria Höfl-Riesch also experienced this on a flight from Munich to Berlin and is anything but happy about this fact.

Ski legend Maria Höfl-Riesch on the obligation to wear masks on planes: "Do it differently again"

She begins her Instagram statement, which she accompanies with a selfie from a Lufthansa plane, with the words: "Now I was so happy when I read in the newspaper last week: From Monday, May 16th, no mask requirement more on planes!”.

The photo is from May 17th, so she must have gotten on the plane assuming she could make the flight without a mask.

As other photos on Instagram show, she spent the rest of the day in Berlin.

So it was a domestic flight.

Höfl-Riesch continues her statement: "BUT - nothing there!

The Germans do it differently (once again)... Despite falling incidence and low intensive care unit occupancy... What is your opinion?".

For Höfl-Riesch, the mask requirement on German planes is incomprehensible, she reinforces her sentences with the hashtags: Corona, it's slowly enough, back to normal and please.

The 7-day incidence in Germany is currently 407.4, 138,000 people have died of Corona since the beginning of the pandemic, and there have also been around 26 million reported cases of infection.

(Status May 18, 2022, RKI).

Ski legend Maria Höfl-Riesch travels a lot, EU recommends omitting the mask requirement

The background to the surprised ski legend is that the EU had recommended being able to put away the masks on airplanes.

However, the German federal government is still in favor of a mask requirement for machines that take off or land in Germany.

In the case of several flights with a change within the EU, this can mean that travelers have to fly twice without a mask and then have to wear one on the way to Germany.

Höfl-Riesch has been on the road a lot lately.

She was in the USA with her husband and fulfilled a childhood dream, she also goes to Lake Garda every now and then.

After landing in Berlin, she attended a musical on Kurfürstendamm in the Theater des Westens and then in the Paris Bar.
