Neither Kane nor Lukaku: Meet the King of the English Cup | Israel today

2022-05-21T08:41:02.647Z

Thanks to a change in the rules for calculating goals in the factory, Adam Boyce's 11 goals in the early rounds gave him the coveted title • The full story of the "Maersk United" striker, from the eighth league (!) In England

The English Cup's zeroed final match between Liverpool and Chelsea focused attention on the dramatic penalty shootout, which brought the title to the Reds.

However, there was another surprising hero in this class, besides the obvious hero - the goalkeeper of Liverpool Allison.

In addition to the main trophy, Wembley was awarded a traditional trophy to the outstanding scorer of the factory but the winner did not come from among the traditional candidates.

Instead of Harry Kane and Romulo Lukaku (three trophy goals each) or Riyad Mahrez (four trophy goals), get Adam Boyce, a physical education teacher in his primary job, and a threatening striker for Marsk United in his spare time.

If you have not heard of Marsk United or the 31-year-old Star Boyce, it is not your fault.

The team from the small village of Marske-by-the-Sea played this season in the eighth league in England, and could not even reach the first round of the cup.

How, after all, did her striker manage to score no less than 11 goals and overtake the really great strikers?

Adam Boyce made history thanks to a historic year: the organizers of the English Cup were so moved by the fact that the factory marks the 150th anniversary of its existence this year, which changed the rules for calculating goals in determining the outstanding conqueror.

If in the days as a correction the goals scored in the qualifying rounds are not counted at all, then this year it was decided to consider them, as a tribute to the origin of the English Cup as an amateur competition.

"Maersk United" started its way into the cup from the preliminary qualifying round and was stopped in the fourth qualifying round.

In those five games she managed to score 19 goals - 11 of which were of the anonymous Boyce.

This respectable number allowed him to safely beat Kane, Lukaku, Mahrez and others, although the striker himself joked during the final game that with his luck one of the Liverpool or Chelsea players would still score nine goals in the final and "steal" the title from him.

The English Cup's outstanding scorer title is of course his record achievement, but Boyce's career has known better days, relatively speaking.

In the past, the teacher played in teams from the sixth division and even from the fifth division.

This year he shone not only in the Cup.

His 46 goals in 48 league games have helped Marsk United advance to the seventh division for the first time in its history.
