The Euroleague's leading basketball referee for years, Luigi Lamonica, is retiring.
The final match between Anadolu Zero and Real Madrid yesterday (Saturday) was the last in his extensive career.
Amonica was the "Colina of basketball," thanks to his judgment and prominence.
Pierre Luigi Colina, the huge football referee who retired several years ago, was also Italian.
Amonica is also known for his theatrical style and his multiple walks to the monitor to test the course of the play.

The first Final Four he refereed was in 2002 and after 20 years refereeing in many of the Final Four tournaments he hangs the whistle at the age of 56. Behind him are 26 years of international refereeing.
