Relegation of the Bizarre League in Bulgaria (YouTube)
An event in the Bulgarian league, which ended in a dramatic league relegation, yesterday (Saturday) became a worthy and perhaps even certain candidate, for the title of "the bizarre event of the 2021/22 season in world football".
Cresco Salo Sofia hosted Locomotive Sofia yesterday in the final round of the lower playoffs, knowing that a win would be enough for them to play in the playoffs for a stay, while a loss of points could send them to the second division.
Locomotive went up to 0: 1 in the 26th minute, Cresco Salo equalized in the 73rd minute and deep in overtime got a penalty and a chance for a makeover.
The drama was at its peak and the minute was already 94, when on the lawn the Gambian striker Yusufa Japa and the captain, Martin Kabdanski, fought for the penalty.
After arguments and slight urges, Yappa took the ball and prepared to kick, but then began the show of the club's president, Stoina Manolov: he entered the lawn, forcibly took the ball from Yappa and passed it to Kabdanski.
The clock kept ticking and the brake was the 35th, a player with a past in the French Metz and Clermont, took the kick in the 96th minute.
He kicked flat and left, but the locomotive goalkeeper jumped in the right direction and caught.
Missing a penalty and relegation in the most dramatic way possible.
Japa, by the way, stood aside and responded with cynical applause for missing the penalty - and was then attacked by President Manolov.
