The Rugby Association has warned that it intends to cease operations after encountering budgetary difficulties • The Ministry of Culture and Sports stated: "The Rugby Association has been supported by the Ministry for many years. The industry does not meet the mitigating threshold conditions of the support tests"

The Rugby Union, warned today (Monday) that it intends to cease operations after encountering budgetary difficulties, problems with the Wingate Institute, and a shortage of facilities.

In a letter issued by Ofer Fabian, chairman of the Israel Rugby Association to Sports Minister Hili Trooper, it was alleged that the new support tests ignored the public comments submitted by the Rugby Association and the Olympic Committee, and the restrictions imposed by the Corona epidemic on team contact rugby.

As a result, the Support Committee has decided not to budget for the industry this year at all and that the new tests disqualify the Women’s League from recognition.

In addition, the Malin rugby industry is one of the first to find a national home at the Wingate Institute for about 10 years, and to date no budgets have been found for the construction of a proper training facility, and Israeli teams train on the field without locker room infrastructure, toilets and sometimes even running water.

Also in the budgets of Beit Leumi (national team training), the union claims that the Wingate Institute will impose restrictions that harm the national teams' training routine, and last weekend the women's and youth teams at the institute's training camp did not receive meals on the grounds that there was no budget.

Another problem, as a large part of the industries in the country is the facilities.

As of this writing, there are only 2 rugby fields in the State of Israel - the home field of Hapoel Jezreel, and the training ground at Wingate (Tel Aviv Municipality is building another field). The graduates, graduates and youth.

In the letter, the chairman of the association concludes: "As long as the issue of budgeting the industry is not resolved soon, there is an immediate danger to the continued existence of the rugby industry in Israel.

"As chairman of the union, I will not take on commitments in which I will not be able to meet the lack of a budget, and it is close today that the union will close its gates and stop the activity."

The Ministry of Culture and Sports stated: "The rugby association has been supported by the ministry for many years. In the 2021 season, the association was supposed to hold about 12 games for the association, for which it was supposed to accumulate about 200 active athletes according to support tests.

"According to the information we have, the rugby associations did not play about 12 games in accordance with the support test, even though the new tests made it easier for them, reducing the number of games for the association from season 18 to 12, so at present the industry does not meet the mitigating threshold. "Support tests. The issue was discussed in the ministry's support committee before the rule of law, but the committee has not yet made its decision. These days, the committee will return and discuss again in order to try and help this important industry."
