The British public broadcaster BBC apologized on Tuesday for fans of the English first division soccer team Manchester United for a text that was accidentally displayed on live television.
BBC News this morning read the text 'Manchester United are rubbish' at the bottom of the screen.
"I hope Manchester United fans didn't mind," said presenter Annita Mcveigh.
“Behind the scenes someone was practicing using the ticker and inserting text.
They were just writing random stuff that wasn't meant to be taken seriously,' Mcveigh said.
But that was definitely a mistake and shouldn't have appeared on the screen.
»Weather, rain, everywhere«
Her colleague Clive Myrie, a self-confessed fan of local rivals Manchester City, took it with humor.
For a video of the faux pas, he wrote on Twitter: "I had nothing to do with it!"
An official BBC statement said: "There was a technical glitch during an exercise with our test ticker, which overlaid the live program for a few seconds.
We apologize for any inconvenience we caused on the air.«
Another message that subsequently appeared on the ticker simply read: "Weather, rain, everywhere."
