"Not just for fun": SpVgg 1906 Haidhausen wants to be relegated to the state league

The SpVgg 1906 Haidhausen meets the SB Chiemgau Traunstein in the relegation to the national league.

The people of Munich have high hopes of promotion.

Munich - It would be the greatest success in the club's history: SpVgg 1906 Haidhausen has its first chance of promotion to the national league.

In the first round of the relegation (group southeast), the Munich team will meet SB Chiemgau Traunstein.

The encounter will be played in European Cup mode - including the away goal rule, which has actually already been abolished at national and European level.

Should Haidhausen survive the first round, the team led by player-coach Sebastian Bracher will meet the winner of the duel between ESV Freilassing (Regional League Upper Bavaria East) and SB DJK Rosenheim (Regional League Southeast).

Only the winner of the second round gets a place in the national league.

SpVgg 1906 Haidhausen: First relegation game against Chiemgau Traunstein

On Thursday (kick-off: 4 p.m. - LIVE on FuPa) there is first the first leg against the Traunstein - a difficult draw for SpVgg 1906 Haidhausen.

The Traunstein team ended the disastrous first half of the season with only 12 points in last place in the Landesliga Southeast.

Coach Rainer Elfinger (now TSV Ampfing) resigned from his post after only four match days.

The club had their backs to the wall.

But under the new player coach Danijel Majdancevic, the Traunsteiner put on a strong race to catch up.

As the fifth-best team in the second half of the season, the team even had chances of staying up in the league - but they recklessly gambled away with a 1:6 swatter at Kirchheimer SC.

Now the club wants to stay up in the league through relegation.

After a weak start to the new year, the hosts put their foot down.

A series of seven league wins and winning the cup final against Forstinning only ended last Saturday with a 2:3 draw in Großhadern.

Sports director Guiseppe "Beppo" Scialdone still sees the other teams as favorites: "Of course we're the underdog in this group.

However, he does not see the duels as pure bonus games.

"We don't just play the relegation just for fun," emphasizes the 44-year-old.

So Haidhausen is definitely hoping for promotion to the national league for the first time.

After fourth place in the first half of the season, the Munich team still made it into the relegation zone.

The players did not let themselves be disturbed by the controversy surrounding the canceled away game at BCF Wolfratshausen.

Until the last day of the game, Munich even had a theoretical chance of winning the championship.

Goal scorer Josef Zander in particular stands out in the game association.

The goalgetter scored 13 goals in the first half of the season until he had to take it easy in the second half of the season due to his final exam in training.

He's been back since mid-May: In the last two games of the season against Denklingen and Großhadern he came off the bench as a joker.

Is Zander in the starting XI again in the relegation?

Giuseppe Scialdone does not want to give any guarantees: "I assume that the coach will not change anything in the line-up."

Regardless of the league affiliation in the coming season, the game association has already strengthened significantly.

Goalscorer Gilbert Diep comes to St.-Martin-Strasse from Bayern league team SV Pullach.

After a season with the southeast regional league team TSV Grünwald, Thomas de Prato is returning to Haidhausen.

33-goal man Francisco Cino Bolona comes from the district league of FC Espanol.
