Germany is in the quarterfinals of the Ice Hockey World Championship.
Who does Toni Söderholm's team meet and where can fans follow the game live on TV?
Helsinki / Tampere - Even before the last group game of the German national ice hockey team against Switzerland, it was clear: Germany is in the quarterfinals of the Ice Hockey World Championships - the dream of the title lives on.
Switzerland was also qualified for the knockout phase before the end of the preliminary round.
What's next for coach Toni Söderholm's team, which opponents could his team face?
And where will the quarter-finals be seen live on TV?
An overview.
Ice Hockey World Championships in Finland: who can Germany meet in the quarterfinals?
Who the German Ice Hockey Federation (DEB) chose depended on the outcome of the group game against Switzerland: the teams drew 3-3 on Tuesday, and it ultimately went to a penalty shootout.
The point after 60 minutes meant: Germany is definitely second in Group A behind Switzerland.
The DEB selection can no longer be obtained from Denmark and Canada.
In second place, Germany avoids the supposedly stronger opponents in the quarter-finals and meets the third-placed team in Group B. If Germany had fallen back to third or fourth place, the DEB team would have taken first or second place from Group B.
Depending on the outcome of the games that are still open, the following teams from Group B are possible opponents:
Finland
qualified early for the quarter-finals.
Sweden
advanced early to the quarterfinals.
In Tampere, the Czech Republic
prematurely bought their ticket to the quarter-finals against the USA.
The
USA
still need a point to take part in Tuesday's quarterfinals against Norway.
Latvia
could still secure a place in the quarter-finals against Sweden on Tuesday.
