The World Laser Boating Championship (ILCA7) continued tonight (Tuesday to Wednesday) off the coast of Riviera Nirit, in western Mexico, where on the second day, where Omar Golani was rushed to hospital but did not give up and returned to compete.
Golani was taken to a local hospital, suffering from a severe intestinal infection, and after several hours of treatment and despite his fatigue and health condition, he asked permission to return and received permission to do so.
Due to his condition, Golani is ranked 59th overall, while during the first cruise of the day, Golani was already ranked 15th, but overturned with his boat and was unable to close the gap from the leaders.
On the second cruise he showed a nice recovery and finished in 16th place.
The team's coach, Eshed Mezritz: "Omar is indeed under-functioning due to a serious intestinal infection, but he is determined to give his all in the competition. I am very proud of his determination and in any case we will continue to monitor his medical condition."
Maor Ben Harush, the other Israeli in the championship, has not yet managed to rise and is currently in 96th place overall.
