At 102 boulevard de Sébastopol, in Paris (IIIe), HQ of Team Vitality, the firefighters of France face AFD Tech for the final of the Corpo League, the official inter-company amateur competition of League of Legends in Europe, the game most popular esports video.

At the end of a tough and disputed match, the AFD Tech team won the second edition of the Corpo League with a score of 3-1.

Even if disappointment dominates on the side of the barracks men, “they are ultra-motivated to participate in the next season.

It's the start of a great adventure with e-sport firefighters,” explains Alexandre Rauber, digital communication officer for the Firefighters of France.

At the end of January, the communication team of the firefighters of France received 1,800 requests to participate in the competition.

“We wanted a girl, a young person, volunteers and professionals from all departments,” explains Alexandre Rauber.

For only ten places.

Objective: recruit new, younger firefighters

The Corpo League was represented by Afflelou, Engie, but also some Parisian start-ups.

After finishing 3rd in the regular season, the firefighters beat Team SNCF in the quarter-finals.

In a good-natured atmosphere, with more than 100 people coming to see the final, AFD Tech, a start-up specializing in digital transformation, won.

For the firefighting team, the most important thing was not in winning: the goal was to reach a new audience.

"We often go on TV, when there are disasters or attacks... but we don't talk about firefighters to recruit", continues Alexandre Rauber.

The Firefighters of France therefore landed

on several new platforms: Instagram, Spotify, TikTok and Twitch.

The objective is to reach 250,000 volunteer firefighters within a few years, whereas there are just under 200,000 today.

Despite the defeat against AFD Tech, the players of the Firefighters of France team were smiling at the end of the meeting.

FNSPF/Team Vitality

The most popular video game in the world, "League of Legends" was the perfect opportunity to become known to the 16-30 age group.

The firefighters took advantage of the notoriety of the two organizers: Team Vitality and Riot Games, the most famous publisher in the world.

Often compared to the "PSG of French e-sport", Team Vitality broadcast League of Legends matches on its Twitch channel.

Thanks to this retransmission, there were interactions, exchanges.

Hundreds of viewers online wondered how to become a young firefighter, how to become a volunteer.

“We wanted to popularize the idea that you have to be strong, powerful and muscular to become a firefighter.

They are not necessarily strong, but they save lives, while playing video games", attests Alexandre Rauber before sharing an anecdote: "Once, in the middle of a League of Legends match, the beep of one of the players rang.

He left the match: there was a life to save.

Discussions are underway with Team Vitality for the participation of firefighters in the third edition of the Corpo League.

The winner of the next season, which will start in September, will go to Berlin to attend professional League of Legends competitions.
