On the roll of honor at the Wimbledon tennis tournament, there will no longer be a salutation before the name of the winner.
This is reported by the “Guardian” and “The Times”, among others.
Previously, the words "Miss" (Miss) or "Mrs" (Mrs.) could be seen before the names of the winners.
The winners of the male competition, on the other hand, only had their first and last names.
After the modernization of the panels, this should also be the case for women in the future.
Salutation on the seat already changed in 2019
Since 2019, the referees have not used the old-fashioned form of address when announcing the scores.
World number one Novak Djković was disappointed at the time: »I thought that this tradition is very unique and very special;
I thought it was beautiful,' he said.
Mrs Loyd becomes CM Evert
The women concerned may have found it less beautiful and more anachronistic: After her marriage to John Lloyd, Chris Evert was identified as Mrs. JM Lloyd on the roll of honor for her triumph in women's singles in 1981.
Both before her marriage to Lloyd and after her divorce in 1987, her name was engraved as Miss CM Evert, while the original 1981 version has not been altered.
She is now referred to as CM Evert in all three wins.
The 1980 winner is finally getting her name too: Evonne Goolagong Cawley was inducted into the All England Club's roll of honor for her triumph as Mrs. R. Cawley.
