2022-05-27T21:24:43.810Z

First European final and first title for the Lyon club, which largely dominated RC Toulon (30-12) at the Orange Vélodrome this Friday.

While waiting for the final of the “big” European Cup between Leinster and La Rochelle this Saturday (5:45 p.m.), LOU and Toulon nicely warmed up the Vélodrome stadium in Marseille this Friday evening.

But it was the Lyon club that set fire to and won the cup for its first European final, in front of 51,341 spectators.

Superior from start to finish, LOU, which played in Pro D2 seven years ago, succeeds Montpellier on the list.

Unrecognizable, Toulon, which remained on ten successes in a row, misses a new opportunity to display the two European cups in its trophy cabinet.

Triple winner of the "Champions Cup" (2013, 2014, 2015), Toulon fails again, after the lost finals of 2010, 2012 and 2020.

In the first half, a try by Couilloud for LOU, following an interception by Taufa on Parisse, rewarded a better Lyon start (7-0, 8th).

The RCT was quick to come back up to par, also thanks to its No. 9, Serin, at the origin and conclusion of the first opportunity in Var (7-7, 17th).

At the break, the LOU returned to the locker room with a meager lead of three points (10-7), when they could have made the break against the dominated Toulonnais, thanks to two tries from Couilloud (2nd) and Niniashvili ( 40th + 1), both refused.

At the very start of the second half, however, Lyon validated their victory with two tries in two minutes, one from a penalty (17-7, 46th), the other by Barassi at the end of a good Lyon move. (24-7, 48th).

Despite pressure from the Var and Kolbe's late try in the corner (74'), LOU won by 30-12.

And perhaps shows the way to La Rochelle, another club with a meteoric rise, in search of a first European coronation this Saturday.

In the eyes of the LOU players, drunk with happiness on the lawn of the Vélodrome, tears, proof of the importance of this title and the progress made in recent years "it's difficult to contain our emotion concedes Baptiste Couilloud it's the culmination of 7 years of work.

We did a huge job.

I was surprised at the resources we showed.

I'm super happy.

It is a culmination.

We are very proud.
