Alexander Zverev is in the round of 16 at Roland Garros for the fifth time in a row.
The third in the world rankings clearly beat American Brandon Nakashima 7: 6 (7: 2), 6: 3, 7: 6 (7: 5) in the third round of the French Open.
Zverev, who reached the semifinals in Paris last year, now meets Spanish qualifier Bernabé Zapata Miralles, who defeated Nakashima's compatriot John Isner.
Kerber loses against Belarusian Sasnovich
Zverev got into the match slowly at first, but after the tie-break of the first set he was able to clearly pull away from his opponent, who was only 20 years old.
The Hamburger is still waiting for his first Grand Slam victory, which he came closest to in 2020 in the final defeat in New York.
For Angelique Kerber, however, the tournament is over after a 4: 6, 6: 7 (5: 7) defeat against Belarusian Aljaxandra Sasnowitsch.
Rafael Nadal won his third round match against Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.
He is still on course to meet world number one Novak Djokovic in the quarterfinals.
The Serb beat the Slovenian Aljaz Bedene 6: 3, 6: 3, 6: 2, in the round of 16 Djoković now meets the ninth-placed Canadian Félix Auger-Aliassime.
