The Pferd International once again attracts thousands to the grounds of the Olympic equestrian center in Munich-Riem.

Until May 29, 2022, stars of the scene will give each other the reins.

Isabell Werth dominated on the opening day.

And the celebrities celebrated enthusiastically at the Welcome Evening.

Jürgen Blum can't quite grasp it himself.

“What an amazing start!

This crowd of people - after the two years of the pandemic, I almost didn't believe that we could celebrate so beautifully again this year," says the father of World Jumping Champion Simone Blum, who was once an Olympic rider himself and will host the horse again this weekend is international.

Until May 29, 2022, you can experience great equestrian sport on the grounds of the Olympic Riding Center in Riem - from jumping and dressage to polo - and look forward to numerous greats in the saddle.

For example on Lisa Müller: The German dressage rider is at the start of the Nuremberg Burg Pokal.

Isabell Werth and her Emilio won the Gut Wettlkam dressage arena

As early as Thursday, day one of Pferd International, it was evident how happy horse lovers are to be able to celebrate their popular event again after two years.

At the welcome evening, Blum draws a positive interim balance: “25,000 visitors were there today.

But everything was perfectly peaceful, boisterous and beautiful.

And then we were able to experience a dream performance by Isabell Werth today,” enthuses the professional.

"She showed again that she is the grande dame in the dressage arena." In fact, the seven-time Olympic champion dominated the Gut Wettlkam dressage arena.

The woman from Rheinberg steered her Emilio to victory in a CDI3* Grand Prix with more than 75 percent.

A Bavarian show jumper had previously won the sporting highlight in the course:

Michael Viehweg from Schrobenhausen steered the Westphalian gray gelding Cartal to victory in the CSI2* show jumping test.

"It will continue like this," promises Jürgen Blum.

Since the 2021 Olympic Games, when the national trainer in modern pentathlon, Kim Raisner, hit a horse and asked the athlete Annika Schleu to "hit it properly" with the crop, there has been more public discussion about violence in equestrian sports again.

Blum was also shocked: "Using this horse, which really wasn't suitable at all, was a big mistake." But he emphasizes that the animals in Riem are not suffering.

“We have horses here that are incredibly willing to perform.

If you lead the horses well, you don’t need a crop.”

RTL presenter Sonja Zietlow is a self-confessed horse girl

Sonja Zietlow is a "horse girl".

That's what she says herself. And when you see her at the Welcome Evening at Pferd International, hugging the magical Shetland ponies in a pink dirndl, you'll believe every word the RTL presenter says.

Riding stable instead of jungle camp.

When Jürgen Blum invites you to the party, the celebrities gallop to the Olympic riding facility in Munich-Riem.

Booted and spurred.

"Finally springtime again in Munich!" says Frank Schneppendahl from the private bank Hauck Aufhäuser Lampe, which is one of the sponsors of the event.

Although he has traveled from Düsseldorf, Schneppendahl is of course wearing traditional costume.

The desired dress code is an expression of Jürgen Blum's claim to live tradition.

For the former German professional in eventing, tradition means above all: imparting values.

"Through equestrian sport, children can learn that aggression is useless and that you can achieve your goal with patience, tenderness and empathy," emphasizes the host.

Uschi Ackermann can only sign that.

The PR lady is tirelessly committed to animals, especially her beloved pug dogs.

She is fascinated by the opening show of the evening from the sun terrace.

And Sonja Zietlow's favourites, the four ponies?

Turn right up.

When they compete with the much larger conspecifics, an ecstatic whoop goes through the rows of spectators.

It's not just the presenter Uschi Dammrich von Luttitz and the former celebrity landlord Peter Schmuck who pull out their cell phones to capture it.
