The International Ice Hockey Federation announced tonight (Friday) at its annual congress that Israel will host the World Women's Championships next year for the first time in history.
The Israeli team, which was formed only in July last year, is making its first steps at the international level when it meets teams in the lower tier, with the same team as the Iranian team, but as happened this year, it is not expected to arrive and take part in the prestigious tournament.
The championship will open on March 27, 2023 in central Canada in Metula, which has 800 seats, in the same place that hosts games of the Israeli league and in the past also the Maccabiah games.
And if it is already Maccabiah, this is the first time that this summer there will also be a tournament for women in Maccabiah with the participation of the Israeli team, when the final will take place on July 23, in a special arena to be set up in the Arena Hall in Jerusalem.
The World Hockey Championships for Women, joins a growing list of major international sporting events in the coming years, from next month's European Figure Skating Championships, 470 World Sailing Championships, Judo Masters Championships in December, 2024 European Basketball Championships, 2025 European Baseball Championships and more.
