2nd running evening of TSV Vaterstetten – Florian Cucu prize awarded for the first time

Vaterstetten – TSV Vaterstetten was able to look forward to a surprisingly large crowd on its second evening of running: over 250 participants had registered.

More than 90 TSV members alone.

No comparison to the premiere last year, with around 40 participants.

"The date on the Wednesday before Ascension Day, i.e. on a working day before a public holiday, seems to have been very well received by the athletes," says Martin Fischer, head of the athletics department at TSV Vaterstetten.

After all, the clear focus on short to medium-distance races is rarely found in competitions in the area, according to Fischer.

For the youth, children's athletics were included in the program for the first time on the running evening.

For the first time, the youngest of the club in the U10 age group were also allowed to take part in the competition.

Two runs over 40 meters had to be completed, whereby only the best time was counted.

The races were held on the back straight, where parents and grandparents could be up close and cheer on their offspring.

Problems with technology and organization

It continued over 50, 75 and 800 meters as well as the relays of the age groups U12 and U14.

In the evening it was the youngsters' turn, sometimes in mixed races with women, men of the main class and seniors.

The Florian Cucu Honorary Award was presented for the first time that evening to commemorate the longtime father stetten coach who died in April.

The fastest female and male youth over 100 meters in the age groups U16 and U18 were honored.

The widow Ionela Visa-Cucu made the award.

Due to problems with technology and in communication with each other, there were one or the other delay: The runners sometimes had to wait for minutes at the starting line for the starting signal.

The event ended with a one mile run.

3rd running night should be even better

"For us it remains to be said that the 2nd Vaterstetten running evening had positive, but unfortunately also some negative aspects," admits Fischer.

In view of the high level of interest, those responsible will soon carry out a "maneuver review" in order to identify improvements, according to the TSV's intention.

"All volunteers, to whom I say a big thank you, have the task of analyzing existing weaknesses and looking for reinforcements," Fischer looks ahead.

Because the TSV wants to organize another running evening in 2023.

This should take place again on the Wednesday before Ascension Day, i.e. on May 17th.

"And we hope that the external athletes won't punish us by staying away because of the problems," said TSV department head Fischer.

The next competition in Vaterstetten will be the 3rd Cup Wendelstein-MS (jump U8 and U12) on Saturday, July 23rd.
